Comparing pre-printed and counted pattern
Easiest start

Pre-printed

The symbols and colours are printed on the fabric. You can see straight away where every stitch goes and work through it colour by colour.

The classic way

Counted pattern

You stitch on blank fabric and follow the pattern included. A traditional way of doing cross stitch that needs a bit more focus.

Tips for choosing a good photo for embroidery

Which photo works well?

Ideally, choose a sharp, well-lit photo where the main subject is clearly visible. A tight crop usually works better than a busy image with lots of small details.

Size advice for a personal embroidery

Which size should you choose?

A larger piece gives more room to bring out the details of a complex photo. On the product page you’ll see the sizes available for the method you’ve chosen.

“No screens for a while. Just thread, a pattern and the calm rhythm of the next stitch.”

Do I need to know how to embroider?

No. You simply follow the symbols and colours of your personal design, step by step. Pre-printed makes it extra easy to see where everything goes; with a counted pattern you work the classic way, from the pattern.

Which photo works best?

A sharp, well-lit photo with one clear main subject is the strongest starting point. Ideally use the original photo file rather than a heavily zoomed-in screenshot.

What’s the difference between pre-printed and a counted pattern?

With pre-printed, the symbols and colours are printed on the embroidery fabric. With a counted pattern, you stitch on blank fabric and follow the pattern included. So the difference is mainly in how you place the stitches.

Which size should I choose?

That depends on the proportions and the amount of detail in your photo. A larger size gives more room for detail. On the product page you choose from the sizes available for your type of kit.

What’s in my kit?

You’ll get the embroidery fabric, thread selected for your design, embroidery needles, your personal pattern and clear instructions to get you started.
