World Animal Day: Gifts for Animal Lovers (4 October)
The best gift for an animal lover is one they get to make themselves and then keep on the wall: a cross stitch kit of the animal they love (from €29.95), a two-canvas color by numbers set (from €59.95), or a mosaic built tile by tile from a photo of their own pet (from €49.95). World Animal Day falls on 4 October, which is a lovely excuse to give one — but none of these ideas expire on 5 October, so they work just as well as a creative birthday gift or a thank-you. Browse the animals and pets collection if you know which animal they adore, or go straight to the Custom Photo Cross Stitch Kit if you want their own dog, cat or horse in the frame.
In short
- Three techniques, one idea: cross stitch, color by numbers and photo mosaic all turn a few calm evenings into something that stays on the wall.
- Ready-made animals: the animals and pets collection holds 19 designs — dogs, cats, horses, highland cattle and more — from €29.95.
- Their own animal is the strongest idea: upload a photo and it becomes the design, in cross stitch, in color by numbers or in mosaic.
- No artistic skill needed: color by numbers works with numbered markers — no paint, no water, no drying time — and cross stitch is one repeated stitch.
- Free worldwide shipping, with no minimum order. You will see the exact delivery time at checkout.
Why handmade gifts land so well with animal people
Animal lovers already own the mug, the tote bag and the calendar. What they rarely get is time. A creative kit gives both halves of a good gift: quiet hours with their hands busy and their phone somewhere else, and a finished picture that stays on the wall.
Pets are also personal in a way that few other subjects are. A generic dog print is nice; a design of their dog is something else entirely, and for an animal that is no longer around a handmade portrait becomes a small memorial. That is a lot of meaning for a gift that starts at €29.95.
Which technique suits which animal lover?
All three techniques work for animal themes, but they suit different people. Use this table to pick without having to ask.
| Technique | Best for | Starts at | What they end up with |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cross stitch kit | Someone who likes small, repetitive handwork and quiet evenings | €29.95 | A stitched picture of a specific animal or breed |
| Color by numbers set (two canvases) | Someone who wants visible progress quickly, or two people coloring together | €59.95 | Two matching paintings that share one set of markers |
| Custom photo color by numbers (one canvas) | Their own pet, colored in by hand from a photo you choose | €49.95 | One personal canvas, no drawing skill required |
| Photo mosaic | Someone who loves building and sorting — the puzzle person | €49.95 | A pixel-style portrait built on numbered base plates |
| Custom photo cross stitch | The pet that is clearly the favorite, or one you want to remember | €29.95 | Their own animal, stitched thread by thread |
Ready-made animal designs worth giving
If you know the animal but not the photo, a ready-made design is the easier route. The animals and pets collection covers the classics: the Golden Retriever "Buddy" for the dog household, the Dachshund with a Scarf for anyone who has owned a stubborn sausage dog, and the Maine Coon in a Lavender Field for the cat person. Each is a cross stitch kit at €29.95 — a comfortable price for a colleague, a neighbor or a secret gift exchange.
Prefer something larger for the wall? Every set in the color by numbers collection contains two canvases that share one palette, so one gift becomes two paintings. Animal Love and Animals in Nature are the broad, safe choices; Horse Life is for the rider in the family, and Tropical Birds brings the most color into a room. Not sure how many evenings a set will fill? How long color by numbers takes gives a realistic answer.
The strongest idea: their own animal as the design
If you want the gift that gets talked about, use a photo of the animal itself. There are three ways to do it.
The Custom Photo Cross Stitch Kit (€29.95 to €99.95, depending on size) turns the photo into a stitched portrait — the slowest and the most personal of the three. Custom Photo Color by Numbers (€49.95 to €109.95) prints it as a numbered canvas with matching markers, so it fills in far faster and still ends up as a painting. And Custom Photo Mosaic Art (€49.95 to €207.95, in five sizes from 25×25 cm up to 40×80 cm) rebuilds it as a pixel design you construct tile by tile on numbered base plates — the mosaic collection holds exactly this one product, because the design is always yours.
Not every photo works equally well. Fur eats detail, and a dark dog against a dark sofa gives a design with nothing to hold on to. Before you upload, read which photo works for a cross stitch kit or which photo works for a photo mosaic. Choosing size and difficulty without asking them
With color by numbers you pick a size and a color level: up to 20 colors (Essential), up to 30 colors (Detailed) or up to 40 colors (Premium). Fewer colors means larger areas and a gentler start; more colors means finer transitions. For someone who has never done this before, Essential is the kindest choice; for a detail lover, Premium is the treat. Sizes run in eight steps from 30×40 cm up to 60×80 cm, and a 30×40 set costs €59.95 (Essential), €72.95 (Detailed) or €85.95 (Premium).
If budget is your starting point rather than technique, cross stitch gifts by budget lays out what you get at each price level, and color by numbers as a gift covers occasions and recipients beyond animals.
Giving it on 4 October — or any other day
World Animal Day is a nice hook, not a deadline. If you want the parcel to arrive for a specific day, order with a little room to spare: shipping is free and worldwide with no minimum order, and you will see the exact delivery time at checkout. If it slips past the fourth, nothing is lost — an animal lover is an animal lover in March too. It also works well as a shared gift: a larger set or a bigger mosaic is a natural present from a team or a whole family.
Frequently asked questions
What is a good gift for someone who loves animals?
Something they make themselves and then keep. A cross stitch kit of their favorite breed starts at €29.95, a color by numbers set with two canvases starts at €59.95, and a mosaic built from a photo starts at €49.95. All three give calm hours first and a finished piece for the wall afterwards.
Can I use a photo of their own pet?
Yes, and it is usually the strongest idea. You can turn a pet photo into a cross stitch kit, into a numbered color by numbers canvas, or into a mosaic design. Choose a sharp, well-lit photo where the animal stands out clearly from the background.
Which technique is easiest for a complete beginner?
Color by numbers. The canvas arrives pre-printed with numbered areas and you fill them in with numbered markers, so there is no paint, no water and no drying time. Pick the Essential level, which uses up to 20 colors and therefore larger, calmer areas.
What does an animal-themed gift cost?
Cross stitch kits start at €29.95. Color by numbers sets with two canvases start at €59.95, and a single custom photo canvas starts at €49.95. A photo mosaic runs from €49.95 for 25×25 cm to €207.95 for 40×80 cm. Shipping is free worldwide with no minimum order.
Does this only work for World Animal Day on 4 October?
No. World Animal Day is simply a good reason to give one, but none of these gifts are tied to the date. They work just as well for a birthday, a housewarming, a thank-you or a gift for someone who has recently lost a pet.
