How does the conversion actually work?
When you upload a photo, it is analyzed pixel by pixel. Each pixel in the final pattern corresponds to a cross stitch. The software (or a designer) converts the colors into suitable DMC thread codes – typically between 40 and 80 colors per image.
The result: A counted pattern with symbols, a materials list (Aida fabric in the correct size, all DMC threads in the correct quantity), an embroidery needle – all in one box.
Which photos are best suited?
Not every photo will make a beautiful embroidered picture. These criteria help:
1. High Resolution
Minimum 1500×2000 pixels. At lower resolutions, details will appear blurry.
2. Good Contrast
Light and dark areas must be clearly distinguishable. A grey, dull-lit photo will become a grey, dull embroidered picture.
3. Clear Subject
A face, a pet, a landscape – something with a clear shape. Very blurred backgrounds work better than chaotic ones.
4. Good Lighting
Daylight is ideal. Avoid pictures with harsh shadows or flash that flattens the face.
Which photos work less well?

How large should the embroidery kit be?
With a photo embroidery kit, the size directly determines the level of detail:
- 30×40 cm: Good for clear motifs (dog, one person, landscape). Stitching time: 60–80 hours.
- 40×50 cm: More detail possible (face recognizable from further away). Stitching time: 100–150 hours.
- 50×70 cm: Maximum detail, almost photorealistic. Stitching time: 200+ hours.
Tip: For beginners, 30×40 cm is perfectly adequate. You don't want to invest 200 hours in your first project.
