On the doorstep stands a bulging jute sack, filled to the brim with presents in mitre red and gold, their bows just peeking over the top. Beside it, a child's shoe with a carrot and some hay, pepernoten (little spiced biscuits) and speculaas biscuits scattered on the tiles, and an old street lamp bathing everything in a soft golden glow.
<details>
Why this cross stitch kit?

The palette captures the very moment of gift evening (pakjesavond): mitre red, gold, beard white, dapple grey, chocolate brown, speculaas tones and a deep evening blue. With 22 thread colours you stitch lovely detail into the coarse jute, the brickwork of the façade, the gleaming copper and the shiny wrapping paper. A clear, manageable motif for beginners, with enough small details to keep experienced stitchers engaged.
</details><details>
Who is this embroidery kit for?

For anyone who still remembers exactly how it felt when there was a knock at the door on gift evening.
